Bill Leffler, Ramsey Bova and I experienced a fulfilling educational three days in Orlando last week at the TD Ameritrade Institutional conference. The three of us were among 3,000 participants, the largest gathering in the company’s history. Ramsey and I attended our first TD Ameritrade conference eleven years ago, in February 2003 in Orlando. Since then, we have visited San Diego and Las Vegas for our continuing education.
Hundreds of exhibitors were there, representing investment management companies, exchange traded funds, software systems for managing assets and our business, trading techniques, market timing systems, client management programs, etc. Probably most important were the various mutual fund management companies wanting our attention and support.
Mitt Romney was our first keynote speaker who did his best to bolster our confidence in the future. Keynote luncheon speaker, Craig Alexander, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, TD Bank Group is positive about the U.S. economy. He predicts low short term interest rates for another year. A panel comprised of Fox News’ Bret Baier & Juan Williams, Mara Liasson, National Public Radio correspondent and George Will, Pulitzer Prize-Winning journalist and author outlined their thoughts on the national political scene. Sugar Ray Leonard, Olympic gold medalist and boxing legend, was our motivational speaker to close the final day of meetings.
CNBC HEADLINE, at this writing. IS IT TIME TO GET INTO STOCKS? Let me share a secret to growing wealthier. Invest your cash whenever it is available for deployment. Do not, repeat, do not try to time the market, any market. When your investment strategy calls for growth investing, maybe because like now the market is suffering a setback, invest regardless of your fears of lower prices. No one is capable of timing the stock market on a consistent basis.
